Five new Montreal ice cream shops to try

Ripples Mile End

This new-to-the-area ice cream shop is Ripples’ first foray away from its St-Laurent Blvd. home base in 35 years of successful business. Fans of their endless selection of indulgent treats can now skip the lineups across from Schwartz’s in favour of this location on Jeanne-Mance St. near the corner of St-Viateur St., which is slightly bigger and a lot airier. I may be preaching to the choir, but Ripples’ ice cream is beloved for a reason — flavours like their deep, deeply indulgent 6x chocolate, ginger and halva are classics, while their more boutique flavours like kulfi and the surprising fennirose (rose-flavoured ice cream studded with candy-coated fennel seeds) solidify their status as a parlour worth travelling for.
